ANIMA
artistic director
ANIMA is a project for the creation of a string quartet with soundboards and core in Avez del Prinzep silver fir, a historic and monumental tree of the Cimbrian Highlands, in the Municipality of Lavarone, crashed in 2017 at about 250 years of life and 52 meters high.
ANIMA is a dream and a gamble: two violins, a viola and a cello whose spruce parts will be made with wood from Avez del Prinzep, which saw the light in the then Austrian Empire, in the same years in which
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived and composed.
From an idea of maestro Giovanni Costantini, cellist and conductor, the creation of the instruments is entrusted to the Trentino master luthier Gianmaria Stelzer; the development of the idea made use of the technical consultancy of the forest guardian, Damiano Zanocco.
The project has garnered the interest and support of MUSE – Trento Science Museum due to the variety of areas it touches and the virtuous circuits it triggers. Simultaneously with the construction of the instruments, an exhibition itinerary is planned at the MUSE, from autumn 2023 to spring 2024, in which Maestro Costantini works as curator and artistic director.
Director Renzo Carbonera is following the project and has already made some footage that was included in the documentary “The Prince’s Sons”, broadcast on RAI 3 for the Geo broadcast (episode of 4 October 2022).
The instruments will be ready by spring 2024 and will belong to the Community of Lavarone which financed their construction.
